Family photo mounts were made of card of different colours. Certain colours were popular only at certain times.

Most brown mounts were very dark in colour, however, a few light brown mounts were produced (but do not confuse these with buff or cream).
NOTE = Two very distinctive types of brown mount were produced for Chromotype and the Autotype processes. These are not included in this section: they are included later.
